I use CCleaner usually - but I came across "fixhelpmate"

http://www.fixhelpmatepro.com/

The sordid details.
Dloaded it and it found a few thousand "errors" in the registry. It
detailed them so could see they were errors - although many would not
actually do much harm. Anyway, I tried to register it and the link to
their "ebank" failed - several times. Emailed support and told it was
a glitch (!) and try again. Meantime I had to re-download the
software (unrelated reason) and it failed to install (corrupt files).
ha ha this is getting really amusing. Emailed about this and guess
what - they asked for a screen shot of the message. Yes folks they
want a pic of an error box saying "the archive is corrupt". Sent them
that - no reply. Tried their "fixed" ebank again - still stuffed. I
don't know why I'm still even bothering with it - well I suppose when
I saw the demo version running it was actually producing a list of
registry "errors" which CClean dod not show.

And so, I just wonder if anyone here is using this program and if so
is it any good?
Thanks

In my opinion, registry cleaners are snake oil. I see no benefit to
removing orphaned registry entries but there's a real risk of doing
harm. CCleaner is a fine product, but I would never use its registry
cleaning module. Likewise for any standalone registry cleaner.

You have a good point there. I did run the Fix help mate trial thing
and it comes up with 4000 "errors". Of course many/most of them are
irrelevant to performance and do no harm. But - maybe they can catch
some real errors?

Are those errors real and relevant? If they are, does the software in
question correct them in a way that results in improved performance and/or
security? If it does, do you trust the publisher not to create new
problems instead?
