Dear Group,

Can anyone please tell as to how to install ftp client and server on
two different Windows Machines (both of them running Windows xp or may
two different Windows version).

Are ftp server/client free?

What role does IIS play in installation of ftp?

On which machine to install server and on which machine to install
client? What role does each application play?

Thanks in advance.

A quick google search would probably net you a number of results:
here's the first one I found.

There are a number of programs that would serve your needs; Windows
XP comes with a very primative (and not too secure) FTP server in IIS
but you may wish to use something else. The server goes on the program
that is handing out the data; the client goes on the computer that is
requesting it. If you want to share files back and forth, you'll want
to install a server and client on both PCs.

FTP lacks real security and there are better alternatives. Which you
chose depends on what your needs require.

You could try FileZilla. The server is available for Windows.
