Multiple unmovable files
(too old to reply)

(Using XP SP3) When I went to defragment last night I noticed that the unmovable file blocks had grown from the 3 that had been there a few months ago to almost a a dozen. Is this bad? What would cause this to happen? (The computer seems to be operating normally).
Thank you for your attention and your advice.

The link you posted explains the concept of unmovable files, and refers to them as being in one solid block ----
that is NOT my issue.
They WERE in a solid block and now they are in almost a dozen separate blocks...

Looks like no one has an explanation ---- in the meantime, a friend of mine has suggested that the multiple unmovable files are due to Windows system updates that just didn't have enough room to consolidate with the main group of unmovable files. As the computer in question has less then 10% free space, this may be likely. Is that a reasonable explanation?
