Downgrade from Win 8.1 to Win 7?
(too old to reply)

I bought a new computer with Windows 8 and have already upgraded to 8.1. I've tried unsuccessfully to adapt to 8.1 from 7. Is there any way I can downgrade my new computer to Windows 7? I am so frustrated that I am considering taking the computer back for a refund if I can't do this.

Thanks in advance... Bob

1) 8 ain't that bad. The Desktop is there; there may
be third party widgets to make it more like Win7. Also
google "make win8 like win7"

2) https://www.virtualbox.org/ - you have to have install
media for Win7 to do this. I have only tried this with
XP and Suse11.0 on Win8.

3) Whether or not the computer vendor offers downgrades is up
to them. Unless you checked up front, I doubt it.

4)

If you purchase the ProPack, upgrading to 8.1 Pro, that includes the
license to Win7 Pro. Otherwise Win7 is not widely available. I just
bought a laptop with 7Pro installed and 8.1 in the box, not expected to
be used; business laptops come with the "downgrade" in place.

But if you only hate the horrible UI of Win8, I suggest you install
Classic Shell. It's free, and it allows you a choice of Start menus --
Win7, XP, or Win2k-style. It let 8.0 boot to desktop, though that's now
a regular option in 8.1 It also includes, if you like it better, the
WinXP style of Explorer. Win8's kernel isn't bad; it's the front end
that's just so hopelessly misbegotten.

I already own a full version (not an upgrade) of Win 7. Can it be installed over Win 8?

Thanks... Bob
