In Windows 8, in Windows Explorer, suddenly a few of my Office Word 2003 docs are hidden, but the other 99% are visible. The hidden ones are definitely there, because i can see them and open them using a third-party software that is somewhat like Windows Explorer; i can then edit and save them.
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

optional details: Set forth below are most of the things i have considered, in alphabetical order:
- copy-ability, even though hidden: E.g. i can do a manual backup of the relevant folder to my external disk, and on the external disk i can see the docs that are hidden in the original folder.
- groups/Usenet searches for similar problems: I have done such searches, and was not able to find a solution.
- Hidden attribute (ie: right click on the doc: Properties): Such attribute is off in the hidden docs. (I know that only by finding the copies on my external disk and looking at the Properties of such copies; i can't see the original docs.)
- malware possibilities: highly unlikely, because Kaspersky Internet Security has been running all the time. Also, in Kaspersky i just did a Critical Areas Scan (which took about 10 minutes), and then a Vulnerability Scan (which took about 10 minutes), and then a Full Scan (which took about 3 hours), and there was no malware found.
- Properties (ie: the folder containing the hidden docs: right click such folder: Properties): gives no clue to the problem.
- Refreshing the view: done; no help
- Restart of entire pc: done; no solution
- system changes recently: none
- View: Hidden Items: was and is checked. And many specific hidden items are visible.
- View: Options: generally: gives no clue to the problem.
- View: Options: View: gives no clue to the problem; ie i made sure as always that Show Hidden Files is on.
- virus possibilities: See Malware Possibilities above.
- Web searches for similar problems: I have done such searches, and was not able to find a solution.

You can set Explorer to show hidden files. Another option is to run attrib
(in a command prompt window) on the hidden files in their original folder.

Thx for that. But:
- I already set Explorer to show hidden files.
- I already am able to run other software on the hidden files, to enable me to view them, edit them, save them, etc.

OK, but if you are unsure as to whether the hidden attribute is set,
attrib will provide that information.

Thanks for that. I did run Attrib just now,
and it reconfirms that the four or so docs at issue are not Hidden, though they are invisible in Windows Explorer.
So the problem remains.
